What is Split for Printing?

Split for Printing turns one source image into equal, numbered files without sending the image to a server. Use it when the destination needs a predictable grid rather than a platform-specific crop.

How it works

Make printable image tiles

  1. 1

    Start from a large original

A social-size JPEG will still look soft on a wall. Compress first only if you are over 50 MB.

  2. 2

    Pick a poster grid

Default is 2×2. Custom rows and columns go up to 10 if you need a map-sized sheet count.

  3. 3

    Print in numbered order

Assemble left to right, top to bottom. Test one sheet before the full run. Expect gaps — this tool does not add bleed.

Tips before you download

Protect the focal point

Keep faces, logos, and headlines away from a seam whenever the artwork needs to read as one image.

Start with enough resolution

A larger grid makes each individual tile smaller. Use a high-resolution original for dense layouts.

Choose the right dedicated tool

Use Grid Maker for Instagram upload order and Split to PDF for paper size, overlap, and assembly marks.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does this create a PDF?

No. This page downloads image tiles (PNG, JPEG, or WebP). Open Split image to PDF when you want one printable file with paper size and overlap.

Can I pick A4 or US Letter here?

Not on this page. Tiles are raw image files. Your printer dialog decides the paper. If you need every sheet to be A4 or Letter with margins and overlap, use Split to PDF.

What grid should I start with?

2×2 for a first test, 3×3 for a larger wall piece, 1×3 for a wide banner. Custom rows and columns go up to 10.

Are files uploaded?

No. Tiles are cut locally. Print them from your own printer dialog.
